Applications of IP-based security systems

IP-based security systems are applicable in every project, yet the biggest benefits are achieved in the projects which involve multiple locations (sites) distributed over a large area, such as:

  • University campuses with libraries, halls, student residences, laboratories and other academic buildings.
  • Mobile phone operators with retail stores, customer service centers and transmission towers.
  • Banks, insurance companies, retail and restaurant chains, couriers and other businesses that have multiple branches.
  • Multinational corporations.

In addition to the obvious applications above, there are interesting alternatives such as:

  • Access control as a service. Certain businesses may consider access control to be a useful, but not vital innovation. Such companies may be unwilling to make significant investment in the equipment and training of the company personnel. They may require just a few controlled areas and prefer not to get involved in the system management. An example of such an application is an apartment complex, or a high-rise multi-tenant building. Such an end user would much more likely prefer to outsource access control as a service and receive a monthly bill. The provider of such a service would be an alarm or electrical company that would already have similar customers al over the area. The IP-based access control system offers a perfect solution for multiple independent systems which are managed from one central location by allowing easy connectivity over the Internet and reducing the number of site visits.
  • Access control for data centers (each cabinet controlled separately to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive equipment).
  • Access control for storage rental companies.
  • Pay-per-use systems.
